In 2009 Oliver Townend riding Carousel Quest was the winner of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials as well as Badminton earlier in the year. In his attempt to the win the Triple Crown of Eventing he had a horrific fall at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event in the US leaving the door open for fellow countryman William Fox Pitt to take the American Prize.
