John was born into a family of horsemen. Raised in Rochester, New York, he grew up on a 300-acre very active horse farm, which was home to about 60 horses. The family did everything from Hunters and Jumpers to breeding and teaching. John rode Jumpers as a child and moved to Thoroughbred racing when his father took a position as a full time Thoroughbred trainer at Finger Lakes Race Track when John was 14. For the next 20 years John worked galloping and breaking racehorses in addition to serving as the assistant trainer under his father. He then went on to have a successful training career of his own.
After settling down in the Fair Hill, Maryland area, John purchased a racetrack tack shop. In 20 the years that followed it grew to be one of the largest tack shops and online stores in the U.S.
Bit of Britain isn't John's only entrepreneurial success. About 15 years ago, he started a wholesale company which manufactures and distributes equestrian products to over 500 stores throughout the U.S. and six countries abroad. Today, Nunn Finer Products is a leader in the equestrian market as trusted supplier of fine English tack and supplies.
In case you think John isn't busy enough with his business ventures, keep in mind that he is also a father of three (two boys and a girl), and husband to a wonderful wife who is also a rider. Oh, and let's not forget that John is a competitive rider himself, and currently competes in the sport of Eventing.
Amy - Photographer/Videographer
Amy grew up in suburban DC as the only horse crazy member of a one car family. She got the choice of her mother taking her to a riding lesson each week or a pony club meeting. She went for the active choice. In high school she showed in the local hunter and equitation divisions on a string of school horses and retired A circuit ponies.
Showing at the open level in Intercollegiate during college was the last time she was competitive. It was in her sophomore year she made the switch from majoring in biology to photojournalism. Organic chemistry and she didn't get along so well, but she still maintains she will take it before she dies to prove she could have gotten through it.
While her riding time is very limited these days, her equine time is not. She can be found photographing at many of the international level competitions on the east coast, she has been the official photographer for the Plantation Field Horse Trials for a number of years, and for the past 15 years been a staff photographer for a daily paper. She hopes that the coverage of shootings, fires and car accidents that made up her days will not be part of her life here at Bit of Britain.
And she hopes to finally find the time to swing a leg over an equine on a regular basis.
April - Oxford Store Manager
April came to work for Bit of Britain in January 2011 by way of Ohio. Raised in New Jersey, April grew up showing the Hunter/ Jumper circuit (mostly Jumpers though). After graduating high school she left the show circuit behind and moved out to Ohio to study Equine Business Management at the University of Findlay.
Shortly after graduating college in 2007 April decided to open her own tack store. After three years though she decided to close the business, pack up her things and move back to the east coast she missed so much.
When she isn’t working April can be found at the barn spending time with her retired gelding Max, hiking with her two dogs Payton and Molly or exploring her new surroundings with her boyfriend Zach.
Beth - Director of Communications
Beth is a native New Yorker, growing up just outside of Syracuse, NY. She has been involved with horses since her tenth birthday, originally riding in the hunters then moving up to the jumpers. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. While at college Beth discovered the wonderful world of eventing and has never looked back. She is currently working with an exciting young sale horse and hoping to get some eventing mileage for both herself and the horse.
Beth began working at Bit of Britain in May of 2007 and has since taken on the role of “Director of Communications,” managing the content on the Bit of Britain family of websites, photographing products for the catalog, attending trade shows and helping Nunn Finer from time to time. If she’s not at her desk or in a saddle, odds are she can be found behind a camera at a local event, shooting pictures for the next “Eventing Calendar” which she and John co-produce.
Erin - Customer Service
Erin is the newest member to join the Bit of Britain team. She is a University of Delaware graduate with a B.S. in Animal Bioscience/Pre-Vet. She grew up riding in Chester County, Pennsylvania and has ridden with top trainers in Dressage, Hunters, and Jumpers in the region. As a member of the University of Delaware Equestrian Team, she rode under coach Bryan Bradley.
Erin says she looks forward to getting some experience and mileage in Eventing and is excited about joining the Bit of Britain team.
Greta - Picker
Order picking is one of the roles essential for the smooth running of every warehouse. Greta does a great job making sure you get the right stuff!
Greta started riding when she was 12 at a private farm in Glenmore, Pennsylvania. Horses became a full time career when she started working at South 40ty Farm in Coatsville, PA. She taught beginners, helped with pony parties and took care of the farm horses. Over the years she also took on a few project horses from New Holland.
Greta finally fell in love with her first horse when she was 22, a 23-year-old Thoroughbred named Handyman whom she adopted from a nice family.
Helena - Marketing
Helena is another native New Yorker now living in the greater Boston area with her husband and 8-year-old daughter on a small farm they call Hither & Yon. Her Quarter Horse, Zeke, is happily retired from his career as a field hunter. Helena spent several years working for and riding out with the Myopia Hunt.
A successful career in marketing for the IT industry (yes, she is a geek) led her to founding The Barn Works, a marketing firm catering to equine businesses. Helena has been working with Bit of Britain since 2007.
With plans of returning to the hunt field soon, Helena has a sweet Quarter Horse named Martin who seems like a darn good hunt prospect at the moment. She also has a little firecracker ArabX gelding named Pi. Pi will make a stupendous event horse. Someday.
Joe - Mobile Store Manager
If you’ve been to any of the shows that Bit of Britain attends, you’ve probably seen Joe, our resident cowboy.
Born and raised on a ranch in Red Bluff, CA. He rode bulls for 9 years and was a bullfighter for 2 years while out in California.
Joe made the move east in January of 2009 and went straight to work in Aiken, South Carolina, running the Bit of Britain Mobile Unit.
When he’s not busy working in the warehouse or traveling up and down the Eastern Seaboard for events, Joe can be found outside hiding in a tree somewhere as he is an avid hunter.
Maryellen - Customer Service

Molly - Public Relations
Molly is a California native who grew up eventing on the West
Coast. It has always been her dream to venture out East and thus, after
graduating from the University of Colorado that is exactly what she did!
Molly spent
a good eight months roughing it as a full-time working student under the
wonderful rider and trainer, Molly Rosin, and that led her to her position here
at Bit of Britain.
Molly says, "I love working at a company where I truly believe in the
integrity of the company, the knowledge of its employees, trust the products we
sell and the credibility of those who stand behind the name."
Suzanne - Operations & Finance
Suzanne is the glue that holds all of the chaos that is Bit of Britain together. She has been with the company for 6 years now, happily marrying her love of horses and numbers into a single career.
Over the years, Suzanne has been instrumental in the execution of John’s endless supply of ideas and visions. None more so than Bit of Britain’s formidable presence at the World Equestrian Games in 2010!
With a 14-year-old daughter who events Novice, is a C1 Pony Clubber and a straight A student, Suzanne is a very proud mama!! She also has 2 grown children, a son, Tim, and daughter, Crystal. Top that off with three dogs, two horses, and a cat who keep most of her free time occupied. Occasionally she can be seen riding her Harley to work on sunny days!
Sydney - Customer Service
Sydney has worked at Bit of Britain as a customer service representative for over four years now. She came to Bit of Britain after retiring from a long time career in Public Health with the State of Delaware.
She has evented for over 40 years and is currently bringing on her latest project- a 5-year-old OTTB mare she adopted in the Fall of 2011.
Sydney also loves to foxhunt, and is a member of the Carrolton Hounds Hunt. When not busy riding herself, she is a National Examiner and Chief Horse Management Judge for the United States Pony Club. Summer finds her often flying off to faraway places throughout the U.S. to serve in this capacity. If that's not enough to keep her busy, Sydney also finds time to volunteer at nearby Fairhill International Horse Trials. There you will find her out on the cross country, fence judging with her two Corgis, Jessie and Finnigan!
