Jim Wofford rode for the United States Equestrian team on the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Three-day teams, winning Silver Medals at both Mexico City in 1968 and again at Munich in 1972 where he placed 6th individually. Additionally, he was alternate on the 1984 Olympic team. Wofford also won the individual Silver Medal at the Alternate Olympics in Fontainbleau, France in 1980.

Wofford won a team Gold Medal at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, placing 4th individually. He won the individual Bronze Medal at the World Three Day Event Championships at Punchestown, Ireland in 1970 and a Team Bronze Medal at the 1978 World Championships in Lexington, Kentucky. He has been five times the U.S. National Three Day Event Champion.

Since his retirement as an active competitor, Wofford has devoted his time primarily to training up-and-coming riders and horses. He is credited with the development of many of this country's top eventing competitors, helping them through clinics and training sessions and as author of a highly regarded book, Training the Three Day Event Horse and Rider. Top placings by his students demonstrates the effectiveness of his coaching.

This book is an amazing book for anyone in eventing, whether at the upper levels, or just starting! He has his own personal conditioning schedules listed in the back, and covers just about everything an eventer needs to know!
